Summer Playbook for Success: A Winning Day for Tampa Youth
July 1, 2025
On July 1, 2025, the Dr. Martin Luther King Jr. Recreation Complex came alive with energy, excitement, and inspiration as more than 105 youth from the Tampa Housing Authority’s Building Hope Program took part in the Summer Playbook for Success Sports Camp & Block Party.
The event was a powerful collaboration between Tampa Family Health Centers (TFHC), NFL Wide Receiver Ray-Ray McCloud III and his RMIII Foundation, NFL Wide Receiver Nelson Agholor, the Tampa Housing Authority, and the City of Tampa Parks & Recreation. Together, gave young people a fun day while setting out to help them build healthy habits, confidence, and the mindset of a champion.
A Strong Start: Kicking Off with Encouragement
TFHC President & CEO Sherry Hoback kicked off the camp with a warm welcome, reminding the campers that champions are built through teamwork, determination, and good health. She expressed heartfelt appreciation for the incredible partners who came together to make this day possible and set the tone for a morning filled with learning, fun, and inspiration.
Fueling Confidence, Teamwork, and Healthy Habits
Throughout the camp, the kids rotated through engaging sports drills and activities led by Ray-Ray McCloud III, Coach Carlos Blake, and the Building Hope team. From football skills to dodgeball, basketball, GaGa ball, and four-square, each station encouraged teamwork, focus, and perseverance.
Ray-Ray McCloud III inspired the kids with his personal story—sharing how sports helped him overcome challenges and taught him the value of believing in yourself and lifting up others. Dr. Ashley McPhie, TFHC’s Chief Medical Informatics Officer, encouraged campers to fuel their bodies and minds with healthy food, daily movement, kindness, and good sleep—simple but powerful habits that help champions succeed on and off the field.
Partnerships That Make an Impact
This event was a true team effort. Special thanks go to Ray-Ray McCloud III, Dr. Ashley McPhie, and Coach Carlos Blake for their leadership, encouragement, and dedication. We are grateful to all of our partners—the RMIII Foundation, Tampa Housing Authority, City of Tampa Parks & Recreation, and the Atlanta Falcons—for their commitment to creating a meaningful experience for these young champions.
A Garden That Grows More Than Food
One of the highlights of the day was visiting the community garden next to the gym, a beautiful space that provides fresh, healthy produce and is a symbol of growth, resilience, and the shared responsibility we all have in nurturing healthy communities.
The Real Win
In the end, the greatest victory wasn’t measured in points or prizes—it was in the joy on the kids’ faces, the confidence in their steps, and the knowledge that they are surrounded by a community that believes in their success.
At Tampa Family Health Centers, we are proud to play a part in helping Tampa’s youth discover that with healthy habits, teamwork, and determination, they can achieve anything.
